French Market and Spanish Fiesta
Learning experience for primary school pupils

In 2010, for the second year in a row, GCSE language students in Year 10 invited children from our feeder primary schools to some special events at HHS, and a taste of what could be in store for them in a couple of years.

This next generation of language learners visited a variety of stalls, where they took part in themed activities and games planned and run by the Hellesdon students, introducing them to topics such as colours, food, numbers, sports, clothes, fruit, parts of the body… but most importantly, perhaps, ice cream. The Year 10 hosts did a great job of making their visitors feel at ease, helping them to join in and have some fun with languages.

Each child was given a guidebook containing the key phrases they would need, information on pronunciation, and mini-exercises designed by the GCSE students. We hope the primary children went away looking forward to carrying on with modern languages, and to the next time they come to Hellesdon High School.
