LinkedUp project
Supporting French-speaking refugees

8R1 has been taking part, along with pupils at Dereham Northgate, Broadland and Litcham, in a project supported by Links into Languages.

The idea is that an outside 'client' should commission a project requiring the use of the foreign language, which is then delivered by pupils. Through this project, the schools involved can analyse to what extent their curriculum is supportive of pupil creativity and independence.

With the help of Monsieur Adolphe, a regular guest, volunteer and representative of the Congolese community, the Year 8 pupils developed a questionnaire in French to find out what kind of information French-speaking people would have found most helpful on arrival in Norwich.

Following the results of this survey, pupils have worked in groups to develop four resources for francophone newcomers to Norwich: a French-English phrasebook, and guides to medical services, free-time activities and churches in the city.
