In early December each year, a coachload of year 8 students and their teachers visit the Northern French town of Lille. We leave Hellesdon in the small hours of Friday morning, take a morning ferry and spend the afternoon in and around Lille's Christmas Market.
For many students, this is a first taste of French life beyond the classroom, and a chance to practise what they have learned in French so far: asking for regional specialities (such as crêpes and waffles) on the market, buying Christmas presents, ordering drinks in a café and noting down their observations in a study booklet.
You can read about the latest trip in December 2010 on the MFL blogue.
The slideshow above is a record of the 2009 trip, when students took some great pictures themselves for a photo competition.
