GCSE Spanish

Spanish is available as a GCSE course at Hellesdon from 2009. Current students have some 'twilight' sessions (period 6), but the subject will go into an option block in the timetable from 2010.

The new course is structured around the following areas:

Lifestyle
- Health
- Relationships and Choices

Leisure
- Free Time and the Media
- Holidays

Home and Environment
- Home and Local Area
- Environment

Work and Education
- School/College and Future Plans
- Current and Future Jobs

In these contexts, students will learn to:

- cope with unpredictability and deal with potential problems
- understand and use a widening range of vocabulary and structures
- understand and discuss issues and opinions
- give full descriptions and accounts

Examinations
Students are examined in four skills:

Listening: final exam - 20%

Speaking: controlled assessment (with your own teacher) - 30%

Reading: final exam - 20%

Writing: controlled assessment - 30%
Two tasks are submitted for marking.

Mock exams will be held in November/December of Year 11.
